The Final NO Show” has been dubbed the official name of the event.

“The evening of George Jones songs is going to be the best musical tribute Nashville has ever seen,” says Nancy Jones.  “We have many surprises planned, and I just wish George could be here to see what we are doing for him.”

The SOLD OUT tribute concert will feature performances by Brad Paisley, Martina McBride, Big & Rich, Loretta Lynn, Lee Ann Womack, Craig Morgan, Thompson Square, Ronnie Milsap, Bill Anderson and rockers Megadeth. 28 ENTERTAINMENT ACQUIRES LIFE RIGHTS TO CELEBRATED COUNTRY MUSIC LEGEND GEORGE JONES

Los Angeles, CA (June 18, 2013) – 28 Entertainment announced today the acquisition of the story rights to George Jones and his wife Nancy for a feature film project about the incredible life and career of the iconic country singer.  The project, written by Dennis L. Baxter and produced by Baxter and 28 Entertainment’s Jay Hoffman and Brian A. Hoffman, depicts George’s life as a country music legend while battling his personal demons.

“Over the years we have been approached to make George’s life into a feature film, but it was not until Dennis Baxter became involved that we were confident the story could be told accurately.  George and I started working with Dennis six years ago in crafting the life-long story.  Knowing George had input in this film and that it will be told the way he wanted it told, I feel we are in good hands to collaborate with 28 Entertainment as we move forward with production,” said Nancy Jones.

Nancy Jones will Executive Produce and consult on the project. Baxter worked closely with Nancy and George on the story before George passed away onApril 26th in Nashville at the age of 81.

“George had hoped to see the movie before he passed and worked with me to make sure the story was complete.” said Dennis Baxter

Jones’ story is one of legendary talent, fame and success, while showing the dark side of alcoholism and drug abuse to levels that few people could survive. It is also a story of healing, renewed faith and the unconditional love that ultimately pulled him through the turbulent times. The script portrays a life that was torn apart by addiction in a very public way, and was saved by the incredible love story of Nancy and George.

“George’s career is one of the most celebrated of country music legends, and we feel it is important to tell his story for fans and music lovers around the world. We are huge fans of George and his music and look forward to working closely with Nancy as we bring his life to the big screen,” said Jay Hoffman of 28 Entertainment.

George Jones had 14 number one country hits and more than 150 songs on the charts, including his award winning single “He Stopped Loving Her Today” which is considered the greatest country music song of all time.

Jones was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992, named a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2008 and in 2012 was presented with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award.  Along with his induction into the Country Music Hall Of Fame he received countless other awards and accolades from ACM, CMA, Country Music Television, and of course, The Grand Ole Opry.

This is the first song from Randy’s new album that’s set to be released this fall.

“It was an honor when I received a request to record this tribute to George Jones, and after I heard how well Keith Gattis had written “Tonight I’m Playin’ Possum,” I was excited to record it.  Thanks to Joe Nichols for coming in and helping on this project,” says Randy Travis.

The Grammy winner provided fans with the first public hearing of “Tonight I’m Playin’ Possum” at the CMA Music Festival.  It happened during the Remembering George Jones panel session on Friday which included the legendary singer’s widow, Nancy Jones, longtime drummer Bobby Birkhead, John Rich, Jamey Johnson and host Joseph Hudak of Country Weekly.  The moving tribute generated a standing ovation among hundreds of fans. It was written by Keith Gattis.

“Everyone has been asking if we will still do the  show,”  says Nancy Jones.  “I have asked Garth, Kid Rock, Travis Tritt, The Oak Ridge Boys, Montgomery Gentry, Sam Moore, Charlie Daniels, Jamey Johnson and others and they all said ‘yes, I am still going to do it’ so with all the artists still planning on coming, we are going to honor George one final time.”

With the recent passing of George Jones, musicians and music fans from all walks of life have expressed the importance of his music to everyone.

As the singer of some of country music’s most enduring classics and the one who made “He Stopped Loving Her Today” the greatest country song ever recorded, Jones blurred boundaries by being accepted by all kinds of music fans. His contributions to country music are undeniable, but his contributions to all of music have come to light after his death.

I am one of those people who likes what I like and don’t pay attention to genre. It’s not about looks or how big your show is, it’s about the music. Above all else, the music has to speak to me, no matter if it is serious, happy, silly or sad. George Jones has done that for me. Fun songs, happy songs or sad songs, his music spoke to me.

When he released “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?”, he wondered what country music would be like after the legends have passed. He lived long enough to see country music change dramatically from even when that song was released in the mid-80’s. As time progressed, more than just Jones wondered who the next legend would be and if they would carry on the traditions of the past.

As the legends we’re pushed off country radio by the new class of artists coming in, Jones reminded everyone that he “Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair” – a feisty tune reminding the younger generations that there is still a lot of life left in him and his contemporaries. Those new kids from the late 80s and 90s now find themselves in that very position of being pushed out of radio playlists for the simple fact of being too old.

Music is cyclic and everything old becomes new again. Some artists are timeless and carry on forever even after their passing. Traditional country may in fact make a comeback some day, but timeless legends like George Jones don’t come around very often. His legacy, his music, his style will all live on forever.

It should be the goal of every country fan, every music fan, out there to remind younger generations to appreciate what came before them, learn from them and carry on their life’s work knowing that tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone. A George Jones only comes along once in a lifetime. His legend will live forever, and no, no one can fill his shoes.
